Automatic settlement of a bill by giving a direct debit instruction
The Water Board of Lemesos in collaboration with the Commercial and Cooperative Banks offers to its consumers the possibility of automatic settlement of their bills on their due date. When consumers decide to begin settlement of their bills by following the aforementioned procedure, they need to visit the offices of the Board and provide a certificate by the Bank/Cooperative Bank, indicating the name of the beneficiary and his/her International Bank Account Number (IBAN). The consumer will also have to present his/her ID card or passport. Periodically, consumers shall be kept informed about the settlement of their bill via a relevant statement of account.
In case of bills overdue, a surcharge of 10% will be imposed on the amount due and the Water Board could then proceed with the disconnection of the water supply without any further notice.
Disconnection Of Water Supply
In case a bill is not settled by the due date, the amount due including the penalty of 20% is transferred to the bill of the next period. If the account remains unpaid the Board can proceed to the disconnection of the water supply.
Sewerage Service Charge
In accordance with the Sewerage System Law 1971 – 2005, article 30, paragraph D, all property owners connected with the sewerage system are charged with an additional fee of €0.64 per cubic metre based on the water consumption.
In case of a bill not settled by the due date, a 10% surcharge is applied on the sewerage charge.
Board’s Access To The Water Meter
The ground around the water meter must be kept clear for ease of meter reading. Otherwise, the charge will be calculated as an estimate based on previous consumption.
Plumbing Installation Maintenance
The responsibility for the proper maintenance of the plumbing installation after the water meter lies with the consumer. Please check on a regular basis both your plumbing installation and your meter reading for possible leaks.
Checking For Underground Leaks
A simple and practical way for detecting possible underground leaks after the meter, is to stop using water for sufficient time as to let your water tank be filled up. Then, check your meter and if it is still registering consumption, this is an indication of a leak at some point after your meter. Please turn off the stopcock of your meter immediately to avoid any further leakage and call your plumber for detecting the possible leak and repairing your installation. After the repair, please contact the Consumers Department at the Water Board (tel.25 830 110).
